AIRTEL MASAZA CUP 2021: Gomba start title defense against Kyaddondo

Record champions Gomba will face off with Kyadondo in the 2021 Masaza Cup opener at the FUFA Technical Center in Njeru.

Gomba are the defending Champions and managed to retain their head coach Ibrahim Kirya.

Kirya will be assisted by Leo Ssekamatte who was part of the Technical team last year.

Former Kitara FC head coach Anthony Ssekitto will be the man in the dugout of Kyaddondo after he replaced George Lutalo.

He will be expected to guide Kyadondo to their second Masaza Cup triumph, they last won the title during the 2008 edition.

For Gomba, they are the most successful team in the competition with five Masaza Cup trophies to their name. In fact they have played nine Masaza Cup finals, the most of any side in the competition.

This is the 17th edition of the prestigious tournament since it’s inception in 2004.

For starters, the Airtel Masaza Cup is an inclusive tournament for all people that reside in the 18 counties of Buganda.

This will be the second year running that the competition will be played as a virtual tournament held in a bubble at the Fufa Technical Centre Njeru.
The competition is expected to climax in January next year.

It has also been confirmed that His Majesty Kabaka Ronald Muwenda Mutebi II will grace the function

Kyadondo and Gomba are in Masengere group alongside Bululi, Singo and Kabula.

Muganzirwaza group has Buddu, Busujju, Mawogola, Buwekula, Butambula.

Busiro, Bugerere, Kyaggwe and Buvuma are in Bulange group.

Butikiro consists of Bulemeezi, Kooki, Mawogola and Ssese.
