Cheptegei, Kiplimo set eyes on World Half Marathon

The Uganda Athletics Federation has named a squad of nine athletes to take part at the World Half Marathon championship which is slated for October 17th, 2020 at Northern Polish Baltic Coast, Poland.

Joshua Cheptegei who is the 5000m World record holder will lead the squad to boost the country’s onslaught for gold. He will be joined by recent Golden Spike 5000m Champion and Meet record holder Jacob Kiplimo, Stephen Kissa, Abel Chebet and Moses Kibet.

Juliet Chekwel who will be making her first World Athletics half Marathon Championship debut will spearhead the women’s team alongside Doreen Chesang, Doreen Chemutai and Rachael Zena Chebet.

Ugandan legend Joshua Cheptegei

For starters, Chekwel made her first major appearance at the Cardiff Commonwealth Half Marathon in 2018. She clocked 1:09.45.

The Uganda Athletics Federation also confirmed that the team will be accompanied by coach Benjamin Njia.
