COSAFA Women’s Championship : Namibia,Uganda play to a barren draw

Namibia 0-0 Uganda

The Crested Cranes and the Gladiators of Namibia played to a goalless draw in a Group C encounter at the Wolfson stadium in South Africa.

Uganda made 5 changes from the line up that edged Swaziland in the opening group game. Grace Aluka, Shadia Nankya, Lillian Mutuuzo commanded places in the starting eleven whereas Shamirah Nalugya and Aisha Namukisa were handed their debuts.

Uganda would have gone ahead in the first minutes but couldn’t take the chances hence playing a goalless first half.

Come into the second period, no serious goal scoring chances Farida Bulega and her charges could burry away.

Hasifa Nassuna was withdrawn for Juliet Nalukenge to surge the attacking intent three minutes past the hour mark.

With the game destined for a stalemate, Bulega brought on Phionah Nabbumba and Norah Alupo for Resty Nanziri and Lillian Mutuuzo respectively inside the last 15 minutes of the game.

The full-time whistle at the Wolfson Stadium saw both sides settle for a point.

Addressing the media in a post match interview, Bulega highlighted the magnitude of her team’s next game

” It’s a point earned. It hasn’t been an easy game but we did what we could only to miss out on victory. We head into the next game looking for nothing less than a win so that we can book a place in the next round.”

Uganda lies ssecond on the table with 4 points, 2 behind leaders Zimbabwe and will need to beat the Zimbabweans to qualify to the semi finals.

The Crested Cranes will play against Zimbabwe on Monday 17th at the Wolfson Stadium.
