Derrick Nsibambi joins new club in Ethiopia

Uganda Cranes striker Derrick Nsibambi has joined Ethiopia Premier League side Sidama Coffee SC.

Nsibambi put pen to paper on a reported two year contract with the club commonly known as Sidama Buna.

The striker has been a free agent after his contract with Egyptian side Smouha FC officially came to an end at the end of last season.

He was in negotiations to join his former club KCCA but the deal could not materialize in the eleventh hour.

He will now become the second Ugandan to play for Sidama Buna after midfielder Yasser Mugerwa who played for the club last season before returning to the Uganda Premier League.

Nsibambi joins that list of Ugandan players expected to play in the Betking Ethiopia Premier League next season. Goalkeeper Charles Lukwago has joined record champions St. George, Robert Odongkara will feature for Jimma Aba Jiffar while Kirizestom Ntambi features for Sebeta Kenema.

Sidama Coffee have also agreed to sign Harambee Stars offensive midfielder Francis Kahata who has been without a club since leaving Tanzanian champions Simba SC early this year.

They are expected to face Ethiopian Coffee in their opening fixture when the league officially kicks off in the second week of next month.

About Sidama Coffee

Sidama Coffee was founded on August 27, 2006, as Dara Kenema.

The name Dara Kenama was changed to Sidama Coffee as the club was the only team representing the Sidama Zone while playing in the second division.

They won the second division of Ethiopian football, in the 2008-09 season earning a promotion to the Ethiopian Premier League and their first season in the top-flight was the 2009–10 season.

The club play their home games at Hawassa Metropolis Stadium in Hawassa, located 14.7 miles from Shashamane and 173 miles from Addis Ababa.
