On Wednesday, 1st May Mandela National Stadium hosted it’s first games since 2019 when Uganda’s football cathedral was closed.
BUL FC became the first team to record victory at the newly refurbished Mandela National Stadium in Namboole following their 1-0 win over Vipers on Wednesday.
Jerome Kirya netted BUL FC’s all important goal in the first half that saw the Jinja based side go top of the Uganda Premier league table.
Abubaker Lawal had a golden opportunity to give the Venoms the lead earlier on but his effort kissed the crossbar.
Victory for Abbey Kikomeko’s side saw them complete a rare double over Vipers SC. The Eastern Giants also won the first round meeting at Kitende 3-2.
In the late kickoff, KCCA FC dented arch-rivals SC Villa’s title hopes with a 2-0 win, courtesy of a Usama Arafat Kiiza late brace.
Victory for the Kasasiro Boys saw them complete a double over the record league winners for a second successive season.
BUL FC are now top of the Uganda Premier league table with 49 points, followed by Kitara FC on 48 while Vipers SC and SC Villa are third and fourth respectively.
