Dhata’s goal sends South Sudan into AFCON 2025 group stage qualifiers

South Sudan prevailed to the group stages of the Africa Cup of Nations 2025 qualifiers after eliminating Sao Tome and Principe.

Joseph Dhata who features for NEC FC first leg goal sent South Sudan into the group phase.

In the first leg South Sudan drew 1-1 with Sao Tome and Principe away from home and both sides played out to a goalless stalemate in the second leg at the Stage Municipal de Berkane in Morocco.

After the two legged preliminary qualification stage, South Sudan advanced to the group phase on away goals rule.

Eswatini also cruised to the next phase of qualification after a 5-2 aggregate win over Somalia.

Eswatini had won the first leg meeting 3-0 before a 2-2 second leg stalemate away to Somalia.

Mauritius also overcame Chad 3-1 on aggregate to progress to the group phase while Liberia advanced with 2-0 aggregate win.

Chad, Eswatini, Liberia, and South Sudan will now look ahead to the next phase of the qualifiers where they will join the 44 exempted countries for the group stage of the qualifiers.
