Uganda Cranes offensive midfielder Farouk Miya is a surprise transfer target for Egyptian giants Zamalek SC.

Miya, who has one year left on his contract with Konyaspor Külübu, is linked to a move away from the Turkish Super League club.

Reports from Turkey indicate that an official from Zamalek initiated negotiations with Miya’s manager and allegedly requested for more details about the player’s availability.

Zamalek are in search of a central midfielder following the exit of Tunisian Ferjani Sassi who has joined Qatar’s Al Duhail following the expiry of his contract.

Nicknamed the White Knights, Zamalek are currently on top of the Egyptian Premier League table with 61 points, 19 clear of rivals Al Ahly who have played seven games less.

Zamalek SC are one of the most successful teams in Africa having won the CAF Champions League five times, the CAF Super Cup four times and the CAF Confederation Cup once among other titles.

Is Miya destined for a move to North Africa? Reports indicate that the player has also received offers that could actually keep him in Europe.

Miya had a torrid campaign last season escalated by a muscle strain that limited him to only 16 out of the possible 40 league games.

It was a disappointing run for the former Vipers starman who emerged as the club’s top scorer in his debut season in Turkey.

The 2019/20 season remains Miya’s best since moving to Europe five years ago. Miya produced 8 goals and 3 assists from the 25 league games he played as Konyaspor raced to beat relegation on final day of the season.

He joined Konyaspor in August 2019 on a three year contract following an impressive 2018-19 season with Croatian side HNK Gorica.

Miya has also featured for FK Sebail in Azerbaijan and Belgian sides Standard Liege and Royal Excel Mouscron.
