Ethiopia came into the game with nothing to settle for but victory after their win over Sierra Leone seemingly null following a FIFA ban on the West African nation.

Michael Olunga had a chance to put the Harambee Stars in the lead inside the first 20 minutes but his header was parried away by Samson Asefa the Ethiopian custodian.

The Ethiopians started the second half on a high note and subsequently forced Patrick Matasi the Kenyan goalkeeper into 2 quick saves.

Bekele Godo almost broke the deadlock after beating Matasi but his effort kissed the woodwork in the 67th minute.

With 2 minutes left on the clock, Kebede Gibeto nearly found the elusive goal for the hosts only to be denied by the steady Patrick Matasi.

Kenya’s skipper Victor Wanyama was booked for time wasting inside the five added minutes.

The two sides will face off again in Kasarani on Sunday 14th October with Kenya targeting 3 points to book a berth in the AFCON final tournament for the first time in 13 years.
