Uganda Cranes goalkeeper Charles Lukwago has joined Ethiopia Premier League side Hawassa City FC (also known as Hawassa Kenema) as a free agent.

Lukwago has been unattached to any club since leaving Ethiopian giants St. George at the end of last season.

He spent the last two seasons at St. George and played an instrumental role as the club won back to back league titles.

A number of clubs expressed interest in signing Lukwago in the past three months including KCCA in Uganda but failed to reach an agreement to swoop the shot stopper.

He is a tried and tested goalkeeper who previously featured for KCCA, Lweza FC, SC Victoria University and Proline FC among others.

Last season, Lukwago was disturbed by injury that limited him to only 17 games in a season and garnered four clean sheets in the process.

He was named the best goalkeeper in the league in his debut season having managed 19 clean sheets in the 27 games he played.

His new side Hawassa City is located in the city of Hawassa and was founded in the 1970’s.

Hawassa City are two time winners of the Ethiopian Premier League (in 2004 and 2007) and one Ethiopia Cup in 2005.

Charles Musiige (Dire Dawa), Simon Peter Oketch (CBE) and Geoffrey Wasswa (Ethiopia Coffee) are other players while striker Derrick Kakooza is expected to be confirmed by Ethiopia Coffee.
