Eric Kenzo Kambale converted from the spot as Express FC cruised to a narrow win over Wakiso Giants on Friday at the Muteesa II Stadium in Wankulukuku.

This was Alex Gitta’s first defeat since taking over from Douglas Bamweyana at Wakiso Giants.

The Purple Sharks had all their previous four games under Gitta’s stewardship.

For Express FC, this was their first home win at home this term. They lost 2-0 to Arua Hill, a 2-2 draw with Vipers SC and a goalless stalemate with Villa.

Wasswa Bbosa’s side was boosted by the return of Godfrey Lwesibawa and skipper Enock Walusimbi who missed several games due to respective injuries.

In the 34th minute, the hosts were awarded a penalty by referee Waiswa Muzamiru after Wakiso FC defender Fahad Kawooya pulled down Martin Kizza in the forbidden area.

Kambale was entrusted with the responsibility and the Red Eagles talisman calmly scored his second goal of the season.

Earlier into the first period, Kizza had his header kiss the bar.

Moments after the recess, the visitors came close to restoring parity but forward Frank Ssebufu failed to hit the target.

In the closing stages of the contest, second half substitute Frank Ssenyondo who was facing his former paymasters failed to level matters as he blasted over his effort.

Express held on to a spirited narrow win as Wakiso’s winning run came to an end and move up to 11 points. They will next face Onduparaka FC on Tuesday.

Wakiso remain on 12 points and will next host Bright Stars next week.
