Douglas Bamweyana and his men put an end to their losing patch of two games in dramatic fashion when they scored an injury time goal to scoop all three points.

They were the better side on a very slippery pitch that Mbarara city struggled to come to terms with.

It played to Maroons advantage that Mbarara city had to host the match on their own home ground of Luzira

Despite the conditions of the pitch, Maroons employed a more cautious and patient approach as opposed to their opponents who always fumbled into quick decisions.

Maroons were gifted a 27th minute goal by goal keeper Tom Ikhara, whose failed dribble on Steven Mukwala backfired and was ultimately punished by Pius Obuya.

Paul Nkata in panic, withdrew the ineffective Brian Ahebwa and replaced him with Ivan Eyam consequently leading a shift in formation, drifting away from a back line of 3 to that of 4.

John Adriko who appeared more comfortable in a three man defense was forced to go wide on the left side of defence and Eyam deployed as the anchorman.

Nkata’s change in tactics proved spot on as his side began to dominate affairs up until the second period.

In the 75th minute, marksman Paul Mucurezi was withdrawn for Huud Salim, a move that angered the City fans.

Nkata’s move was vindicated two moments later when the more livelier Salim sent a thunderbolt which Hannington Sebwalunyo spilled over in Jude Semugabi’s path to level matters for Mbarara city.

With the game destined for a stalemate, Obuya and Steven Mukwala combined well in the 4th minute of added time to steal all three points for the visitors.

Obuya’s perfectly weighed cross met an unmarked Mukwala who made no mistake but to head the ball home and consequently put an end to Maroons’ winless streak.

Next in line for them is a home tie against SC Villa at Luzira on 12th October whereas Mbarara city will visit URA FC on the same date at Mandela national stadium
