UGANDA 2-0 MALAWI : Okwi, Bayo strike as Cranes extinguish the Flames at Namboole

Emmanuel Okwi and Fahad Bayo scored a goal each in either halves as Uganda Cranes defeated Malawi 2-0 at Namboole.

The Cranes hit the front through Okwi who was on the recieving end of Joseph Ochaya’s long ball and exquisitely beat Brighton Muntali the Malawi goalkeeper at the half hour mark.

Farouk Miya almost doubled Uganda’s advantage but he was unfortunate his low shot came off the low post with Muntali already beaten at the stroke of halftime.

The Cranes line up for the match

Malawi thereafter made an immediate change with Chimango Kayira coming on for Chimwemwe Idana before the half-time whistle was finally blown.

Jonathan McKinstry made his first change 10 minutes into the second half when defender Murushid Jjuuko went off limping and was replaced by Timothy Awany.

10 minutes later, Allan Okello was also introduced for William Kizito Luwagga who was deployed on the right flank of attack.

Bayo made it 2-0 after capitalizing on a blind pass before comfortably putting the ball beyond Mutwali’s trying gloves in the 70th minute.

Midfielder Khalid Aucho was later withdrawn for Taddeo Lwanga three minutes to normal time.

Uganda are now joint top of Group B with four points same as Burkina Faso who beat South Sudan 2-1 courtesy of Aristade Bance’s brace.
