Uganda Cranes and New York Red Bulls midfielder Steven Sserwadda will be out of action for about five months after undergoing a surgery to repair a torn medial collateral ligament in his right knee.
Sserwadda got injured while playing for Uganda in the 1-0 defeat to Tanzania at the Suez Canal Stadium in Ismailia, Egypt on 24th March.
The former KCCA winger came off the bench to replace Fahad Bayo at the start of the second half but only played nine minutes before he was stretchered off for Allan Okello.
Sserwadda joined the first team of New York Red Bulls last season after signing a Major League Soccer contract on July 9th last year.
He has found it hard to break into the starting line up and has only played two games in the Major League Soccer which came against Atlanta United and FC Cincinnati.
His injury automatically sidelines him from Uganda’s next AFCON Qualifiers against Niger and Algeria next month.
He has a total of five caps with the senior national team which include three starts including his debut against Tajikistan in the Navruz Cup in Uzbekistan.
