USSSA National Boys’ Football: Kimanya, Kitende, St Julian surge into the quarterfinals as Jinja SS ejects Amus College

Defending champions St. Mary’s Kitende cruised to the quarterfinal stage of the ongoing Uganda Secondary Schools Sports Association (USSSA) National Boys’ Football championship in Masaka.

The joint record competition champions Kitende powered into the Quarterfinal stage after edging Nakaseke international 2-0 in the round of 16.

Hakim Mutebi and Issa Bugembe netted in either half to send Kitende into the last eight.

Blessed Sacrament Kimanya thrashed Standard High Zzana 4-1 to reach the quarterfinals.

Najib Taali, Koma Huzaifah, Bogere James and Patrick Mutebi scored the four goals for Kimanya while Latif Semalulu’s netted the only goal for Standard High Zzana.

Amus College who have been the tournament’s top scorers were shocked by Jinja SS 4-3 on penalties.

The two sides had played out to a 1-1 stalemate in normal time but Jinja SS advanced to the quarterfinals 4-3 on penalties.

Mukono Region champions St. Julian prevailed to the quarterfinals with a 2-0 victory over Jinja Comprehensive.

Simon Wanyama and Patrick Ssenkusu scored the two goals for Felix Ssekabuuza’s coached side.

Kisozi Seed eliminated Kawempe Muslim 5-4 on penalties to reach the last eight after a two-all draw in normal time.

Masaka SS needed a 6-5 shootout win over Mukono Kings to surge into the quarterfinals. The sides had played out to a 3-3 stalemate in normal time.

Jinja Progressive Academy thrashed Kabalega Secondary School 5-0 in the final round of 16 tie to set up a meeting with rivals Jinja SS in quarterfinal.

The other round of 16 tied between Buddo SS and Wisdom High School was not played after Bukedea Comprehensive filed a petition claiming that Buddo SS had used an ineligible player.

Buddo had eliminated Bukedea Comprehensive 1-0 at the round of 16 stage.

So far Kitende, Kimanya, St. Julian, Masaka SS, Jinja SS, Kisozi Seed and JIPRA are the teams into the quarterfinals.
