Katikkiro Mayiga reveals why his Majesty Kabaka didn’t attend Masaza Cup final

The Katikkiro of Buganda Kingdom Charles Peter Mayiga has revealed that his majesty Kabaka Ronald Muwenda Mutebi II didn’t attend the Masaza Cup final between Busiro and Buddu since he is out of the country.

Busiro beat Buddu 2-1 to claim their first ever Masaza Cup crown at Muteesa II Stadium in Wankulukuku on Saturday. Isaac Ofoyrwoth and Masuudi Kafumbe netted for Busiro while Denis Kalanzi scored for Buddu.

According to the Katikkiro who presided over the final, his Majesty went out of the country in February and for the reasons he went out were not finalized for his to return in time for the final.

“As you have witnessed Ssabasajja Kabaka is not here as is the norm, he went out of the country on the 22nd of February and for the reasons he went out were not finalized, so he couldn’t not return in time for the finals. But he sends his greetings and congratulates the winners and runners up.” Said Katikkiro

Kabaka graced the 2021 Masaza Cup final

He congratulated the winners and also thanked the sponsors of the prestigious competition.

“I congratulate Busiro for winning the Masaza Cup trophy, this is the first time they are winning it since the inception. I also congratulate Buddu for finishing as runners up and for attaining the level of competitiveness.” I would like to thank the sponsors lead by Airtel, Centenary Bank and the fans for the support.” Said Katikkiro.

The final was attended by the Archbishop of Kampala Archdiocese Paul Ssemogerere, Leader of Opposition Mathias Mpuuga, former Vice President Edward Sekandi and Member of Parliament.

Meanwhile, the 2023 edition of the Masaza Cup is expected to kickoff in June this year.
