Gerald Ogweti scored two first half goals as Lugazi FC beat promotion hopefuls NEC FC 2-1 at the Bugolobi Coffee Grounds.

The stocky striker broke the deadlock in the 33rd minute with a tap in after goalkeeper Brady Wokorach punched the ball in his way.

He doubled the lead when he capitalized on a defensive blip to poke home from close range a minute to the half time break.

In fact Ogweti’s double took his tally to 17 goals this term, only Henry Kitegenyi of Mbarara (19 goals) and Dennis Omedi of Booma (22 goals) have scored more than him.

NEC who were missing their coach Skills Lukyamuzi through suspension struggled for command and failed to make their home advantage count.

They pulled one back through veteran striker Geoffrey Sserunkuma who headed perfectly from a free kick in the 78th minute.

Efforts for a possible leveller in the final 10 minutes emerged futile for the home side.

NEC are third on the table but literally walking on thin ice as their last two games will be against Kyetume (home) and Kataka in Mbale.

They have 51 points, one above Police FC who will be playing against Booma in Masindi and Jinja North at Kavumba in their last fixtures.
