Captain Gift Fred and in form striker Charles Bbaale scored two second half goals to ensure that SC Villa leave Bombo military grounds with all three points and also keep their hopes of winning league title number 17.
They went to Bombo after suffering a disappointing loss to Maroons but were handed a lifeline when their competitors Vipers and KCCA also failed to take full advantage.
It was UPDF who dominated the affairs for the first 45 minutes and even went so close to going Infront but striker Ivan Ahimbisibwe failed to find the target, just inches away.
He headed the ball just over the bar as Meddie Kibirige in Villa’s posts was already beaten and the game went to half time level.
Tensions rose amidst the travelling fans after getting communication elsewhere that Vipers and KCCA had gone in front by halftime.
Only Jackson Magera knows what he fed into the ears of his men at the half time briefing that spurred them on to attack relentlessly as soon as Asadu Semere blew the resumption whistle.
Their efforts immediately paid off after captain Gift Fred headed in Umaru Lutalo’s corner kick delivery which the UPDF defense dealt with poorly.
It was 1-0 for Villa just after 2 minutes of the second half and they continued to dominate the affairs until the 80th minute when they chose to sit back and defend their lifeline.
They resorted to counter attacks and one of them came close to paying off but Charles Bbaale hit the woodwork.
Goal keeper Meddie Kibirige produced one of saves of the season with a fine stretch to deny UPDF’s Rogers Mugisha.
As the hosts intensified their quest for an equaliser, substitute Jonah Kakande broke through and fed Bbaale who ensured Villa have a 2 goal cushion and ultimately all three points with 2 minutes left on the clock.
The Jogoos will return to action next Tuesday against relegation fighting Blacks Power.
