Uganda National Women’s Netball team (She Cranes) succumbed to a narrow defeat to hosts South Africa at the ongoing 2023 Netball World Cup.
The hosts nation prevailed 52-50 over She Cranes in the entertaining contest on Thursday evening.
It was a spirited performance from Fred Mugerwa’s coached side who trailed at 33-19 at halftime before ending the contest in a narrow defeat.
The results sees South Africa finish third in the group with Uganda settling for fourth.
The nations will now play classification games to determine who finishes 5th-8th at the Global Showpiece.
Uganda will face the team that will finish third placed team in Group F (Tonga or Malawi) whereas South Africa will battle the fourth place nation in the same group.
In the defeat, Uganda’s Shadia Nassanga was named player of the match after managing 21 goals from her 23 attempts.
Mary Nuba also had a brilliant game scoring 29 goals for the She Cranes.
Meanwhile, holders New Zealand will battle England in the Semifinal while red hot favourites Jamaica will face Australia for a place in the final.
