In 2021, Ssewanyana together with Benson Ssenyonga were found guilty of leading a mob that Lynch a suspected mobile phone thief, one Siraje Hakim Tumusiime to death in 2019 in Kasubi.

The Cranes cheerleader and Ssenyonga were by then local leaders in Kasubi serving as Vice Chairman and Defence/Security officer respectively.

Him and Ssenyonga were sentenced to prison by Buganda Road Court Chief Magistrate Miriam Okello in 2021 after she was convinced by the evidence from witnesses that the duo participated in the act of mob justice.

On Saturday, Ssewanyana was released from Kitalya prison after serving his sentence and was escorted to his home by football supporters.

By the time of his arrest, Ssewanyana was the main cheerleader of the Uganda Cranes. He is also an Express FC fan.
