The Uganda Sports Press Association (USPA) will on Monday, 6th November name the winners for the September and October during their assembly at the Uganda Olympic Committee offices located in Lugogo.
The event will be graced by USPA President Moses Alsayed Lubega and other executive members.
Nominees for the Month of September
•Uganda Rugby 7s Team
They secured bronze at the 2023 Africa Men’s Cup in Zimbabwe, earning a spot in the 2024 Paris Olympic Games repechage.
•Husinah Kobugabe / Gladys Mbabazi
This dynamic female duo clinched gold in women’s doubles at the Benin International, keeping their 2024 Olympic Games hopes alive. Kobugabe also claimed bronze in Women’s Singles at the same championship.
•National Ludo Team – The Doves
Defended their title during the 2023 championship in Durban, South Africa, winning a closely contested finale against South Africa on penalties.
Nominees for the Month of October
• Joseph Sebatindira
The first-ever Table Tennis World Champion from Uganda, emerging victorious in the under-11 World Table Tennis Youth Contender tournament in Cairo, Egypt.
•Godfrey Nsubuga
Secured the 2023 Uganda Amateur Golf Open title with a remarkable course record, finishing with a score of -11, one of the best in the tournament’s history.
•Peace Kabasweka
Won the 2023 Uganda Ladies Golf Open and the NCBA Golf Series in Entebbe, her first Uganda Open title after years of close finishes.
•JKL Dolphins
Clinched the 2023 National Basketball League title by defeating the KIU Rangers, marking their third NBL Title in the club’s history.
•City Oilers
Secured their ninth consecutive NBL title with a 78-63 triumph over KIU Titans in Game 6, extending their winning record.
•BUL FC
Had a strong start in the 2023/2024 Ugandan Premier League in October, winning all four games played, scoring eight goals and conceding just two.
•The Lady Rugby Cranes
Finished third at the Africa Rugby 7s Paris 2023 Olympic Qualifiers, earning another opportunity to chase Olympic qualification via the Repechage tournament next year.
