Uganda’s Joshua Cheptegei will make his marathon debut at the Valencia Marathon Trinidad Alfonso on Sunday morning 10:00am in Valencia where he broke the 10000m and 10Km World Records.

The Marathon is a new challenge for the man who has had an illustrious 10 year career on track.

As he prepares to end his track chapter at the Paris Olympic Games next year, Cheptegei will be aiming for a podium finish on his marathon debut.

“I am not actually looking at running fast times because it is still a new distance for me and I’m still learning also in training. I want to learn and the best for me would be seeing myself being on the podium.” Said Cheptegei before adding

“I want to approach this marathon with a lot of respect as it is something new for me. I want to approach it in a new dimension. All of us are built differently, what is important for me is to just enjoy the race and see what happens after 35 kilometres.” Added the Ugandan icon

Valencia is place where Cheptegei has memories of greatness as it’s where he set the 10Km record of 26:38 in 2019 and the still standing world 10000m record of 26:11.00 in 2020.

On his debut, he will face off with legendary Kenenisa who ranks third on the world all time Marathon list. He clocked 2:01:41 at the Berlin Marathon in 2019.

It will be the first ever clash for Bekele and Cheptegei, the man who broke the Ethiopian’s world record on track.
