Former Referee George Nkurunziza has revealed that no referee is contracted with the Federation of Uganda Football Associations (FUFA).

While appearing on NBS PressBox on Sunday, Nkurunziza also stated that he was paid Shs100,000 per game when he was refereeing games.

“I didn’t have any contract with FUFA and no referee has a contract with them.”

“I was getting USH 100,000 per game.” Said Nkurunziza before adding,

“The federation should consider refereeing as a profession and stop seeing it as a hobby.”

On why he was banned

“Maybe the Federation was in a rush to put up an accountability and that is why was banned.”I did not take part in match fixing.” Said Nkurunziza

In August this year, The FUFA Ethics and Disciplinary Committee banned Nkurunziza for ten years from taking part kind of football-related activity at the national level (administrative, sports or any other).

Before he was banned, Nkurunziza had already announced his retirement from refereeing.
