Ugandan midfielder joins Irish club Athlone Town FC

Republic of Ireland club Athlone Town FC has completed the signing of Ugandan midfielder Carl Mujaguzi from Swedish side BK Olympic.

Mujaguzi is a 23 year old central midfielder who has spent a decade in Sweden since leaving Uganda in 2014.

He was officially unveiled early this week and handed shirt number 6 on arrival before taking part in Athlone Town’s 1-0 defeat to Longford FC on Tuesday night.

In an interview with this website, Mujaguzi expressed his interest in playing for the Uganda Cranes and hopes a move to Ireland will catapult him to great heights.

The central midfielder grew up in Kisugu in the suburbs of Kampala before he left for Europe a decade ago.

He is a graduate of the famous Edgar’s Youth Academy.

He played for IFK Hässleholm in Sweden before joining his most recent former club BK Olympic.

Mujaguzi’s immediate task to guide Athlone Town back to the topflight league commonly known as the Premier League of Ireland.

Athlone Town is the oldest club in history of football in the Republic of Ireland having been formed in 1887.

Athlone Town are two time league winners and one time winners of the domestic (FAI) Cup.
