NEC FC returned to winning ways with a narrow 1-0 win over league leaders Kitara FC on Thursday night at MTN Omondi Stadium.

Cromwell Rwothomio second half goal was enough to earned Hussein Mbalangu coached side maximum points over the Hoima based.

Kitara’s Jasper Aheebwa was lucky not to see red in the first period since he was the last man when he fouled on Rashid Okocha on the edge of the area.

He was only shown yellow by Referee Stephen Kimayo.

In the 65th minute, Rwothomio gave the host the lead heading home a perfect Joseph Dhata cross.

Kitara pressed for the levelled and nearly got through Jude Semugabi but the forward had his effort hit the side net with only the goalkeeper to beat.

Second half substitute George Ssenkaaba thought he had restored parity for the visitors after being fed by Semugabi but his goal was flagged offside by assistant referee.

NEC FC prevailed and are now on 40 points as second placed SC Villa while Kitara remain top with 44 points.
