FWSL: Wakiso Hill secure safety as UCU Lady Cardinals get relegated

Former league champions UCU Lady Cardinals succumbed to relegation from the FUFA Women Super League after suffering a 2-1 defeat to Rines WFC at Kabaka Kyabaggu.

The defeat left the University side sitted second from bottom with 14 points from the 17 games.

Catherine Wujja scored a goal in each half to secure victory for Rines who also confirmed safety at full-time while Jovia Nakagolo’s 36th minute goal turned out to be a mere consolation.

UCU who won the league title in 2019, became the second side to be relegated this season following Asubo Ladies’ relegation a week ago.

Consequently, Wakiso Hill officially secured safety after a hard drilled 1-1 draw against Lady Doves at Katusabe Grounds in Masindi.

Captain Zaitun Namaganda scored her fourth goal of the season from a Fatumah Nakasumba assist to give Wakiso a deserved lead in the 70th minute.

Lady Doves equalized late in the 90th minute capitalizing on a deflection off Nakasumba and ultimately shared the spoils.

Wakiso Hill have garnered 19 points, 14 of which have been achieved in the second half of the season.

In other games; Makerere University held Uganda Martyrs to a 1-1 draw at Lubaga with Noeline Namiiro and Brenda Munyana scoring for either side respectively.

Shamirah Nalugya scored a brace and assisted Anitah Namata for the other to give Kampala Queens a commanding 3-0 win over She Maroons at Luzira.

Kawempe Muslim left it late to beat Asubo Ladies 2-0 in the Valley courtesy of goals from substitutes Esther Nangendo and Rhoda Nanziri.

The title will be decided on the final match day of the season as Kawempe Muslim host Kampala Queens on Sunday 26th May.
