Mbale Heroes captain moves to SC Villa

Long serving defender Geoffrey Lubangakene has joined SC Villa from newly promoted side Mbale Heroes, Swift Sports understands.

Lubangakene who has also been serving as the Mbale Heroes captain, has signed for the 17 time league champions.

The towering center back has spent five years at Mbale Heroes having joined the club in 2019 from former Big League side Light SS FC (currently known as Soroti City FC).

Lubangkene joined Mbale Heroes at the time the club was under the name of Kiboga Young, endured relegation to the regional league before bouncing back to the Big League in 2022.

He captained the Mbale based side to their historic promotion to the Uganda Premier League at the end of the recently concluded last season.

He is expected to bolster SC Villa’s defense in the upcoming season that will see the Jogoos featuring in the CAF Champions, CECAFA Kagame Cup and the local based competitions.

It should be noted that Villa already lost their league winning captain Kenneth Semakula who announced his departure from the club as a free agent last month.
