The eighth edition of the Mutalaga Christmas Cup was officially launched on Thursday night at Grand Imperial Hotel in Kampala.
The tournament was started by businessman Frank Ssebanenya Mutalaga in 2015 but it has led to the establishment of several players in the country.
Mutalaga hailed the media for amplifying the event that has helped youths showcase their talents
“This will be the eight edition of this remarkable tournament but we couldn’t be here if the media had not played a key role. I thank journalists for amplifying this tournament and sports in general. This tournament has helped the youths to showcase their talents.” I am not aiming at any political office but my target is to help the youths prosper through their football talents.” Said Ssebanenya Mutalaga

During the official launch, Mutalaga Frank gave the organizing Committee for the eighth edition that is led by chairman Tony Katende with football equipments such as balls, nets, corner flags, among others.

This season has attracted over 100 teams with 80 progressing to the group stages. Each team that registered for the tournament received Shs300000.
The tournament will officially kickoff on Monday 8th July 2024 at Lweza Playground with two fixtures.
Jesus FC (Seguku) will lock horns with Kanaaba United (Ndejje) at 2PM while the other fixture will be between St Mary’s FC (Katale) and Professor Buwembo FC (Makindye) at 4Pm.
The tournament will run until December, 25th (Christmas Day) 2024 with the winners walking away with a Bull, Shs2M and a set of Jersey courtesy of Mutalaga Frank.

KCCA FC duo of Usama Arafat Kiiza and Joel Sserunjogi as well as Amuli Mukasa now at URA FC have all featured in the event.
