• Kawempe Muslim 2-0 PVP Buyenzi
Ugandan champions Kawempe Muslim kick started their CAF Champions League Qualifiers with a 2-0 win over Burundi’s PVP Buyenzi.
Youngster Agnes Nabukenya continued from where she stopped last season with a brace to ensure a very crucial win for the Ayub Khalifa coached side.
Ayub handed senior team debuts to youngsters Shadia Nabirye and Sumaya Nabuto while Hadijah Babirye played in central defense to fill the void left by Shakira Nankwanga who joined rivals Kampala Queens.
PVP Buyenzi had familiar faces who included their skipper Joelle Bukuru and former Asubo Gafford and Yanga winger Aniella Uwimana.
Nabukenya broke the deadlock and gave the Valley Warriors a deserved lead with a brilliant finish in the 32nd minute.
Krusum Namutebi was replaced by Allen Nassaazi as the second half kicked off in a bid to add more firepower upfront.
Nabukenya doubled the lead with an exquisite free kick in the 58th minute and subsequently put the game beyond reach.
Nabirye was replaced by Rhoda Nanziri while Mary Kabaculezi also replaced Nabuto a few minutes to full-time.
Kawempe will return to action on Wednesday 21st August as they take on Tanzanian champions Simba Queens.
Simba Queens took an early lead on the Group B table with a 5-0 win over Djibouti’s FAD FC.
