Buddo Secondary School Games Teacher Kato Joram has lauded his team after competing in the U15 CAF Boys Qualification Tournament for the first time in the Ball Games at Teso College Aloet in Soroti.
Kato believes participating in the U15 tournament has been a good learning experience that will spur his team to greater heights in the next tournaments to come including next year’s edition.
Heading into the final day, Buddo were second and emerged unbeaten having won two games and drew the other three to garner nine points from five games.
Despite missing out on glory, Kato cites valuable learning experience earned by his debut marking team in the highly competitive tournament.
” It’s been a great honor to participate in the CAF U15 Boys Football Qualifiers. I thank the organizers of the tournament as well as the director of Buddo Secondary School for funding our team.” Kato says.
” This is our first time as Buddo SS to compete in the tournament and we have plenty of positives we have picked. Since it was our first time in this tournament, many under looked us and regarded us as underdogs but we have ended the tournament as runners up.” He adds.
“We have been playing in a round robin and we have finished in the second position. We have managed to get some wins and some draws as well but most importantly didn’t lose any game. Our performance has been so encouraging and it will inspire us to come back stronger.”
Buddo drew 0-0 Royal Giant in the first game, beat St. Mary’s Kitende 1-0 in the second game, drew 0-0 with St. Andrew Kaggwa – Gombe, drew 1-1 with Dynamic SS before beating Amus College 3-0 in the final game.
” We have been using our own nurtured young players and we are hopeful they will be very instrumental for us next year while some of them will be elevated to the U16 level. Some of these players will be part of the senior school team in the near future.”
” It has been a tough competition and I believe our boys have gained a lot from this tournament.” Kato concludes.
The winner of this decisive game between St. Mary’s Kitende and St. Andrew Kaggwa – Gombe will earn the ticket to represent Uganda at the CECAFA Zonal Schools Championship.
