SC Villa outclassed Mbarara City 4-2 at Muteesa II Stadium in their start of the Uganda Premier league title defense on Monday.
Defender Arnold Odong, Elvis Ngonde, Patrick Jonah Kakande and Hakim Kiwanuka scored the four goals for the reigning champions.
Seiri Arigumaho and debutant Paul Busolo scored the two goals for Mbarara City FC.
Odong gave the hosts an early lead heading home a perfect David Owori free kick in the 7th minute.
Ndonge doubled Villa’s advantage in the 18 minute with a sensational strike from 30 yards after being fed by Kakande.
Villa could have scored more in the first period with Kiwanuka and Francis Onekalit squandering decent scoring opportunities.
Kakande also registered his name on the score after the halftime breather after linking up perfectly with Ngonde.
Kiwanuka netted the fourth with a cool finish to send the Jogoo faithfuls into elation.
Mbarara pulled one back through Arigumaho in the 80th minute before Busolo completed the scoring to make it 4-2 in the final minutes of the game.
SC Villa will next face Mbale Heroes on 22nd September while Mbarara City next host Police FC who drew 0-0 with BUL FC.
