Former KCCA FC striker Simon Tshisungu Kankonde has joined Ivorian Giants ASEC Mimosas.

Kankonde joined the Ivorian topflight side as a free agent following expiration of his employment contract at KCCA FC.

He also featured for ASEC Mimosas during their 2-1 defeat over Togo’s ASC Kara in the first leg of the CAF Confederation Cup second Preliminary round on Sunday. He came on as a substitute in the 78th minute.

In May last year, Kankonde was banned for eight matches by FUFA after slapping referee Mashood Ssali during the Uganda Premier league game between Vipers SC and his former side KCCA FC at Kitende.

Kankonde also went AWOL in his final season at KCCA FC and did not feature for the side during the 2023/24 campaign as he was seen nowhere.

Besides, KCCA FC Kankonde has previously played for AS Dauphin Noir de Goma, Etoile Jaune de Bukavu, Union Sportive Tshinkunku de Kananga and Academie Club de Kananga.

Meanwhile, his new side will be seeking to progress to the group stage of the CAF Confederation Cup when they host Togo’s ASC Kara in the return leg fixture on 22nd September.

For starters, ASEC Mimosas are 1998 CAF Champions League winners and have previously won the Ivorian league title a record 29 times.
