Uganda have grabbed a hugely important 17-5 to take the remaining place for the 2025 Challenger series after seeing off Madagascar in the third-place playoff of the Rugby Africa Women’s Sevens tournament.

One spot had been left after finalists South Africa and Kenya had secured tickets to the global Sevens showcase next year.

It came as massive relief to the Lady Cranes, who lost 19-0 to rivals Kenya in the Cup semi-finals left them needing to beat islanders Madagascar to progress.

Grace Auma scored twice for Uganda while Grace Nabagala crossed once.

The 2024 Rugby Africa Women’s Sevens tournament organized by Rugby Africa, the continental governing body of Rugby across Africa, in partnership with the Government of Ghana, the 2024 tournament brings together 12 national women’s teams at full strength, featuring nations such 2023 reigning champions South Africa, Kenya, Tunisia, Zimbabwe, Burkina Faso, Madagascar, Ghana, Mauritius, Uganda, Zambia, Senegal and Cote d’ Ivoire.
