Police reveals cause of Lawal’s death

Police has revealed more in regards to fallen Vipers player Abubaker Lawal’s death citing he died of blunt force Trauma.

Lawal was pronounced dead on 24th February, 2025 with Police preliminary reports indicating that he fell off the balcony of the third floor of Voice Shopping Mall in Bwebajja where he had gone to meet his Tanzanian friend Omary Naima.

According to Daily Monitor, Kampala Metropolitan Spokesperson Patrick Onyango stated that the postmortem report conducted by government forensic pathologist at Mulago National Referral hospital, the forward died of multiple injuries to the head as a result of a blunt force trauma.

Blunt force means that the body had many injuries caused by a blunt object.

Naima was arrested following the incident but according to Onyango she was released after 10 days on Police bond.

“A death inquiry file is still open, the suspect was given Police bond as we wait for the forensic report.” Said Onyango as quoted by Daily Monitor

Dr Lawrence Mulindwa mourning Lawal’s death

Vipers SC President Lawrence Mulindwa and Lawal’s brother Mansoor Lawal both called for a comprehensive investigation into the tragic death of Nigerian forward who was buried at his ancestral home in Sokoto Nigeria earlier this month.

Lawal joined Vipers in July, 2022 from Rwanda’s AS Kigali and won the 2022/23 elusive Cup double with the Venoms.

He is remembered for scoring Vipers first ever CAF Champions League group stage goal when they played out to a 1-1 stalemate with Moroccan giants Raja Casablanca on March 18, 2023 at Kitende.

This season, Lawal had only made eight league appearances for Vipers. Lawal also previously played in the Nigerian Premier League with Kano Pillars FC, Wikki Tourists FC and FC Nasarawa
