South Africa is at risk of losing points in the 2026 FIFA World Cup Qualifiers for allegedly fielding an ineligible player.

Bafana Bafana cruised to a 2-0 win over Benin in their group C encounter on Tuesday to move five points clear.

Before, Tuesday’s victory over Benin, Hugo Broos’ men beat Lesotho in the game where they fielded Mamelodi Sundowns midfielder Teboho Mokoena who was ineligible to feature due to card accumulation as per the records.

The midfielder was cautioned in South Africa’s opening game of the qualifiers and against Zimbabwe. The two yellow cards automatically could have ruled him out of the match against Lesotho as per FIFA’s rule 63 that govern the World Cup Qualifiers.

Mokoena, however featured in Bafana Bafana’s 2-0 win over Lesotho.

South Africa are now likely to lose points to Lesotho who would move to second place in the group.

Bafana Bafana now top the group with 13 points and will stay in the same position even if they are deducted points.
