Former Express FC player and coach George Ssimwogere has had his say on the current state of the club and asserts that the club fans and Kiryowa Kiwanuka are to blame for the situation that has hurt the Red Eagles badly.

Before, Express FC’s 2-2 stalemate with Vipers SC, news circulated that the club players had gone six months without pay. Express FC fans led by Julius Bakunda promised ten million shillings in case the club prevailed over the league leaders.

Ssimwogerere a former coach and player at the club has provided his thoughts on the situation, criticizing Kiryowa Kiwanuka.

“I feel that Kiryowa Kiwanuka has not helped the club like I expected. He is not like his fathers Sam Kiwanuka and Patrick Kiwanuka who used to act. That has not been the case for Kiryowa Kiwanuka, he bent more into politics and is going to leave the club in a very bad state.”

On the fans behaviours at the seven time UPL champions

“Express FC fans are also problem to that football club, they attack everyone with abuses in case they don’t like that person including those who could have bailed out the club like the likes of Godfrey Kirumira and Hajji Ssebaggala. When I was Express FC coach, the fans used to attack me even at my residence. I remember they even bought a Taxi and branded it with Express banners and they could come with it at my home abusing me to leave their club. So they are to blame for the crisis at the club.” Said Ssimwogerere

Ssimwogerere believes that Express needs someone who has it at heart

“The club is currently down and it needs someone who has it at heart. I have had rumours that maybe it should be given to Ham. In case it’s given to him, I assure you that will be the end of Express.” Said Ssimwogerere while appearing on Pitchside

At the start of the 2023/24 season, the seven time Uganda Premier league champions named Suubi Kiwanuka as their chairman replacing his brother Kiryowa.

Kiryowa Kiwanuka had served in the role from August 2018 to July 2023. He had replaced Hassan Bulwadda at the start of the 2018/19 season.

Ashraf Miiro is the Chief Executive Officer at the club and has also faced criticism from the club faithfuls since taking over from Isaac Mwesigwa.
