Over nine Universities have confirmed taking part at the fourth edition of the Eastern Africa Women’s University Games to be hosted by Makerere University.
Netball, football, Handball, volleyball, swimming, basketball, football, Chess, tennis, Badminton, athletics, scrabble and goalball are the games in which over 450 participants will participate in.
Accelerating Gender Equality and Empowerment in University Sports is the them for the 2025 fourth edition.
Prof.Simon Munayi the president Eastern Africa Women’s University Games has highlighted on their readiness ahead of the fourth edition,
“All I can say we are more than ready for the fourth edition with over 450 students (ladies) allover East Africa, our idea is to continue improving and I think we have partly achieved the number of women taking part keeps improving every year.”
Brian Miiro Nsubuga the General Secretary Eastern Africa Women’s University Games who also doubles as the assistant Dean in charge of sports Makerere Universities is happy that the numbers keep improving,
” As Makerere University as the hosts we have done proper preparations as well as as assembled very strong teams to represent us as favourably compete it a plus for us as the organisers for the increased number of women who participate.
”
“We target also building more confidence in women through sports, we not only focus on winning medals but also preparing them for higher positions/offices.” Nsubuga added
Dean of students Makerere University Dr.Winfred Namuwonge Kabumbuli was in attendance.
Makakere University, United States International University Africa, Mountains of the Moon, Kisii University, Daystar University, Kabale University, Kabaale University, Kumi University, Bishop Stewart University and MUBS
United States International University of Africa are the overall defending champions.
