Days after showing four red cards in SC Villa’s 2-0 win over Mbarara City in the Uganda Premier league game at Kakyeka, referee Henry Musisi was once again dished out three red cards in Kitara’s Stanbic Uganda Cup Quarterfinal triumph over BUL FC.
Kitara needed a late Arthur Kiggundu goal to overcome the 2022 Stanbic Uganda Cup champions BUL 1-0 at Butema Royal Park on Sunday.
Holders Kitara had their midfielder Titus Ssematimba sent off whereas BUL FC duo of Jeromy Kirya and Nicholas Mwere were also shown marching orders in a discombobulated game.
In the 30th minute, chaos erupted when Kirya pushed Patrick Kaddu to the ground before Ssematimba had his hand into Mwere’s face.
Referee Musisi sent off both Kirya and Ssematimba for their incidents.
Karim Ndugwa came close to giving the visitors the lead three minutes after the recess but his effort hit the crossbar.
Kiggundu fired the home side into the lead with a sensational free kick strike as the holders sealed a place into the last four.
Defender Mwere was also sent off for a second bookable offence deep in stoppage time.
BUL FC captain Walter Ochora was lucky to stay on the pitch after pushing referee Musisi to the ground.
BUL FC head coach Abbey Kikomeko was left fuming after the final whistle as his side suffered elimination at the quarterfinal stage just like last year.
Kitara join KCCA FC who overcame Kaaro Karungi into the semis. Action will resume on Monday when Vipers SC take on SC Villa at Kitende while Police FC will entertain Kataka FC on Tuesday.
