Vipers SC’s evisceration of Kitara FC in Wednesday’s league contest not only saw them clinch the league title.

The Venoms needed a commanding 2-0 victory at Butema Royal Park to smile to their seventh league title. Their defeat at BUL FC on Saturday only delayed their title celebrations to four days.

With a game to spare, Vipers currently lead the table Standings with 68 points, four above second placed NEC FC who beat former champions SC Villa at Wankulukuku.

Their triumph on Wednesday took Vipers’ haul of titles to an emphatic total of seven championships level with Express FC.

Only SC Villa (17) and KCCA FC (13) have more Uganda Premier league titles than the Venoms.

Since their maiden league title during the 2009/10 season, no side has won more than Vipers SC.

They have won seven league titles coming in 2009/10, 2014/15, 2017/18, 2019/20, 2021/22, 2022/23 and now 2024/25. It all began when they clinched the 2009/10 title.

In that time KCCA FC has managed five league titles while URA FC, Express FC and record league champions SC Villa have each won it once.

Co-coached by John Ayala Luyinda and Fred Muhumuza, the Venoms also have a chance for a second domestic double. They lead Kitara FC 1-0 from their Stanbic Uganda Cup first leg Semifinal with the return fixture due this Saturday.

The four clubs to have won a double are SC Villa (1986, 1988, 1989, 1998, 2000 and 2002), Express FC (1995), KCCA FC (2017) and Vipers in 2022/23 season.

The onus for Luyinda and Muhumuza now is to join Geoff Hudson (SC Villa), Polly Ouma (SC Villa), Mike Mutebi(KCCA FC), Jimmy Muguwa(Express FC and Milutin Sredojevic alias Micho (SC Villa) and Alex Isabirye Musongola (Vipers SC) who are the coaches to have won a Cup double.
