Kampala Queens’ bid for a historic double officially came to an end following a 3-2 defeat to FUFA Women Elite League champions St. Noa in the quarter finals of the FUFA Women’s Cup last week.
Highly-rated budding striker Sylvia Kabene scored a double for the newly promoted school side whereas Shamirah Nalugya and Zainah Nandede scored for Kampala Queens, goals that only turned into consolations.
Coming into the encounter, Kampala Queens (KQ) had already been confirmed as the champions of the Finance Trust Bank FUFA Women Super League.
With the talk of historic double gaining more momentum, Kampala Queens stumbled once again and even failed to reach the Women’s Cup semi-finals for an umpteenth time.

2017: Round of 16
• Kampala Queens 1-1 UCU Lady Cardinals (UCU won 6-5 on penalties)
Kampala Queens met with UCU Lady Cardinals in a closely contested Round of 16 encounter at Villa Park that saw the latter win 6-5 in a shoot out following a 1-1 draw.
Annet Nakimbugwe scored for Kampala Queens in the first half but Millicent Mwanzi equalized deep in the second half to send the game into penalties.
Ritah Nakirijja and Bridget Hope Namata missed the penalties for KQ in a shoot out that saw defender Gladys Nakitto put on the gloves following an injury on goalkeeper Lydia Adubango in normal time.
2018: Round of 16
Kampala Queens 1-2 Kawempe Muslim
Kampala Queens had their campaign cut short after losing 2-1 to a much changed Kawempe Muslim side at the Villa Park in Nsambya.
Striker Juliet Nalukenge stole the show as she scored a brace for the Ayub Khalifa coached side whereas veteran forward Winnie Babirye’s lone goal ended up as a mere consolation for Kampala Queens.
2019: Round of 16
Kampala Queens 0-3 Lady Doves
Lady Doves ejected Kampala Queens with a comprehensive 3-0 win in a round of 16 game played at the Old Kampala Primary School ground.
Kenyan forward Mary Nafula Wanjiku scored a brace for the Masindi based side whereas former Kampala Queens striker Winnie Babirye scored the other.
Lady Doves, coached by Oliver Mbekeka, went all the way to the final of the tournament only to lose to the eventual winners Makerere University.
2023: Quarter-finals
Kampala Queens 1-5 Kawempe Muslim
Kampala Queens lost 5-1 to Kawempe Muslim at the IUIU Kabojja Campus and consequently bowed out of the FUFA Women’s Cup that was on return from a three year break due to the COVID-19 outbreak.
Phiona Nabulime, Agnes Nabukenya, Shakira Nyinagihirwa, Allen Nassaazi and captain Aisha Nantongo scored the five goals for Kawempe while Lukia Namubiru got the consolation in the 36th minute.
2024: Quarter-finals
Kampala Queens 0-1 She Corporate
She Corporate edged Kampala Queens 1-0 in the quarter-finals at Lugogo and consequently eliminated them from the tournament.
Brenda Munyana struck as early as the second minute of the game to win it for She Corporate who eventually ended up as the tournament’s winners.
2025: Quarter-finals
Kampala Queens 2-3 St. Noa Girls
St. Noa stunned the Queens of Soccer at Lugogo thanks to Kabene’s hat trick and the diligent defense exhibited in the tense second half of the game.
Despite KQ’s noticeable transformation under Ethiopian coach Firew Asefa Hailegebral, the team has had an unconvincing and lethargic display lately that has seen them fail to win their recent three fixtures.
Prior to the St. Noa defeat, Kampala Queens lost 2-1 to Kawempe Muslim and were held to a goalless draw by Tooro Queens in their most recent Women Super League fixtures.
Hailegebriel will thereafter be tasked with guiding Kampala Queens in the pursuit for continental football when the team represents the Uganda at the CECAFA Zonal Qualifiers later this year.
