Midfielder Allan Oyirwoth came off the bench to make his debut in the Major League Soccer as New England Revolution lost 3-1 to Chicago Fire in the wee hours of Sunday morning.
The Ugandan Cranes teenage midfielder replaced Jackson Yueill in the 69th minute of the game.
Oyirwoth’s elevation to the senior team of New England Revolution follows his impressive and consistent performances in the Major League Soccer Next Pro League with New England Revolution II.
His debut automatically made him the 12th Ugandan player to feature in the Major League Soccer in history.
Signed from MYDA FC in the FUFA Big League in January this year, Oyirwoth also became the second Ugandan to play for New England Revolution after striker Edward Kizza who featured for the club in 2021.
Other Ugandan players that have previously featured in the Major League Soccer are; Mike Azira, Sulaiman Tenywa, Peter Byaruhanga, Ibrahim Kasule, Joel Kitamirike, Edward Kizza, Mustafa Kizza, Ibrahim Ssekagya, Robert Ssejjemba, Steven Sserwadda and Brian Umony.
Azira who made his MLS debut in 2014 with Seattle Sounders, played more games (130 plus eight in the playoffs) than any Ugandan player in the league.
