Former Express midfielder joins Kenya’s Nairobi United

Kenya Premier League side Nairobi United FC have signed former Express FC midfielder Shafik Ssebyala on a two year contract.

Ssebyala is set to debut for Nairobi United in the upcoming CAF Confederation Cup preliminary round against NEC FC.

Ssebyala played for Express FC during the 2022/23 and 2023/24 Uganda Premier League seasons.

He is a product of Qatar’s Aspire Academy and also earned a national team summon for the U23 AFCON Qualifiers under coach Micho.

Nairobi United have also signed Shami Kibwana, Bernard Jairo, Chris Opondo, David Wafula from Murang’a Seal and youngster Kepha Aswani.

Nicknamed ‘Naibois’, the club is currently coached by former Kakamega Homeboyz coach Nicholas Muyoti.

The club is bankrolled by Nairobi governor Johnson Sakaja through his foundation and will be competing in the Kenya Premier League for the first time having earned promotion at the end of last season.

Nairobi United won a double last season after clinching the NSL Championship (second tier) and stunning Gor Mahia 2-1 in the Cup final to earn a CAF Confederation Cup berth.

The first leg between NEC FC and Nairobi United will be played on Saturday 21st September at Nakivubo while the second leg is slated for Saturday 27th in Nairobi.
