Rukungiri United FC has been demoted by the Western Region Football Association (WRFA) after failing to honor three league fixtures in the 2025/26 season.
A letter dated 16th March 2026, signed by WRFA Secretary Nalwanga Magret and addressed to the club’s CEO, confirmed the decision. The missed matches were:
Gorilla Highlands SC vs Rukungiri United FC
Rukungiri United FC vs Rwenshama FC
Rukungiri United FC vs Six O’clock FC
Nalwanga noted that the club failed to provide any explanation, justification, or formal communication regarding the absences. She cited WRFA rules:
Rule 23(4):Clubs must submit a written explanation within 48 hours if they fail to turn up or refuse to play.
Rule 23(15): Deliberate withdrawal or refusal to honor fixtures may result in demotion and further disciplinary action.
As a result, Rukungiri United FC has been relegated to the Rukungiri DFA 5th Division for the 2026/27 season.
