Vipers sign BUL’s Versatile Defender

Uganda Premier League champions Vipers SC have signed BUL FC defender Nicholas Mwere, Swift Sports Uganda Understands.

Mwere joins the Venoms on a three year employment from the Eastern Giants where he has been since 2023. He joins the Kitende based side as a free agent following expiration of his employment contract at BUL.

Mwere is known for his strong defensive instincts and can ably operate as a full-back or in central defense. At Vipers he will bring versatility to the squad.

Mwere also previously featured for former Uganda Premier League side Busoga United and also represented Uganda Cranes at the 2024 CHAN tournament.

He also features for the Uganda National Beach soccer team, Sand Cranes. Following his outstanding performances during the 2023/24 season, Mwere was named in the team of that same season.

At Vipers, he will fight for a starting place with Enock Luyima and Derrick Ndahiro who is set to renew his stay at the eight time league champions.

The Venoms will be under the stewardship of a new head coach following the depqrture of Belgian tactician Ivan Jacky Minnaert. They will have a busy schedule next season with CAF Champions League football on the cards.
