Uganda’s representatives at the 2026 CECAFA Kagame Cup Vipers SC will be in action on Friday against Djibouti’s Garde Republicaine in the Group A encounter at Amahoro Stadium in Rwanda.
While addressing the media ahead of the contest, Garde Republicaine team captain Liban Mohamed claimed that this is the first time to he has heard of Vipers.
“I am not going to tell you what will happen tomorrow because we are all footballers but we shall try to play and win. Maybe they are a big team (Vipers) but I have never heard about them (Vipers) but we are respecting the team.” Said Liban

Garde Republicaine are two time Djibouti League champions having won their topflight division in 2022 and 2023. They finished third in the Djibouti league table last season.
Meanwhile, Vipers under the stewardship of Frenchman Denis Lavagne are seeking their maiden CECAFA Kagame Cup title this term.
“We are not ready 100% and for us, the season starts on August 23 when we play the Super Cup in Uganda. But the CECAFA tournament is very good preparation for us and we have to do our best to win every game when we play.” Said Lavagne
SC Villa (3), KCCA FC (2), Express FC and Police with one title each are the four Ugandan sides to have won the title.
Rwanda’s APR and Kenya’s Gor Mahia are Vipers other opponents in Group A with the group winners sealing a semifinal slot.
New recruits Joel Sserunjogi, Nicholas Mwere, Loyce Mbaba, Cesar Manzoki and Farouk Miya are all expected to get their Vipers debuts.
