FUFA and Uganda Premier league clubs have on Tuesday, September 2, 2025 held a consultative meeting over the new reforms ahead of the 2025/26 campaign.
Last month, FUFA revealed a change in the format of the top-flight division with the new one to be played in three rounds but clubs led by record champions SC Villa and seven time champions Vipers, 13-time champions KCCA and Lugazi raised concerns over the new reforms.
Dr Lawrence Mulindwa (Vipers SC President) stressed that changing the league format is something that you cannot be done in one night but appreciated FUFA for listening to their concerns
“This is the first time the clubs have come together as one person to fight for a just cause. We have had a very constructive cause with the FA where we raised our concerns regarding the competition reforms for the 2025/26 season.”
“We have had a series of meetings trying to look at the new format and we have critical concerns but we saw it wise to solve these issues as a family as Fufa is part of the football family, is our mother body,”
Said Mulindwa before adding,
“One thing that we saw in that document was the timing. There was lack of consultation, lack of sensitization and involvement of the key stakeholders.”This is a fundamental change, it’s not something that you can change in a night. It takes time.” Said Mulindwa
FUFA President Moses Magogo stated that the clubs had agreed on a number of things but couldn’t reach a compromise on the format of the league and will await the next meeting on Tuesday next week to decide whether to proceed with the new one or drop it.
