Basangwa, Nyola and Shamika are February Fortebet Real Stars

The organisers of the monthly Fortebet Real Stars awards have rewarded the best three performers for the month of February at Molecule on Tuesday.

Chess, Football and Badminton are the three sports categories awarded at the event.

Kampala University first-year student Nyola Wasswa Mark won the chess accolade following his success at the Uganda National Chess Championship (Super 12) held at Sport View Hotel in Kireka in February.

Nyola, pursuing a Bachelor in Information Technology emerged as the overall winner, at the National Chess championship.

The championship also served as a selection ground for Uganda’s national team ahead of the 2026 World Chess Olympiad set to be hosted in Uzbekistan this September.

He overcame his teammates Olivia Asiimwe and Sana Omprakash to the Chess gong.

In football, Nec’s Richard Basangwa clinched the award following his tremendous start to life at Lugogo. Basangwa scored a brace for NEC FC on his debut against KCCA FC last month.

He overcame Entebbe UPPC goalkeeper Rogers Omedwa and Vipers forward Milton Karisa who were also in fine form.

Uganda’s badminton star Fadilah Shamika Mohammed Rafi won the February badminton category accolade after her crown at the All Africa Badminton senior championship Gabrone, Baostwana.

She stormed to gold in women’s singles and before partnering with Tracy Naluwooza to clinch a bronze medal in women’s doubles at the All Africa senior individual Badminton championship.

Shamika’s remarkable 2-1 triumph over South Africa’s Johanita Scholz in the three sets (21-17, 16-21, 21-19) to claim the women’s singles gold was her highlight of the month.

The winners were rewarded with cash prizes and winners accolades courtesy of Fortebet and Jude Color solutions.
