Gov’t to inject billions in diaspora training and player tracking technology

The National Council of Sports general secretary Bernard Patrick Ogwel has revealed that the government of Uganda will inject billions in diaspora training and player tracking technology as the nation prepares for next year’s Africa Cup of Nations.

Uganda along with Kenya and Tanzania will host Africa’s biggest football competition from June to July 2027.

According to the development naturalisation of players abroad will coast Shs1.5Bn. Last week, FUFA boss Moses Magogo stated that the funds are to enable FUFA get players who have an attachment with Uganda to feature for the national team.

The responsibility to identify players abroad was handed to Mathias Ndawula and according to Magogo,naturalization of players will improve on the quality of players just like countries like Africa’s top footballing countries such as Senegal and Morocco have done.

Meanwhile, government has also put Shs3.6Bn to provide specialised training to players in diaspora while Shs1.7Bn will be spent on the purchase of technology to monitor the training progress of players.

Divine Tayon Mahogany Mukasa who plays as a forward or attacking midfielder for EFL Championship club Leicester City, on loan from Premier League club Manchester City, along with Arthur Chukwuezugo Okonkwo who plays as a goalkeeper for EFL Championship club Wrexham are some of the players monitored by the federation.
