Stanbic Uganda Cup: Soltilo Bright Stars, Ateker, UPDF and Maroons prevail to round of 32

Soltilo Bright Stars secured a place in the round of 32 of the Stanbic Uganda Cup after edging a spirited Free Stars 7-6 on penalties.

The 2019 finalists needed a penalty shootout after a 1-1 stalemate in Monday’s round of 64 away to Free Stars.

Free Stars captain Alex Kitonsa fired them into the lead in the first period of the contest to send the home fans into a bouncing frenzy.

His goal was however cancelled out by a Joseph Janjali late equaliser in the final 10 minutes of the game.

The winner of the tie was to be determined via a spot kicks from the penalty mark and the 2019 prevailed to the next round.

Issa Bugembe, Odong Jonathan, Omony Kaka Denis, Joseph Janjali, Nvule Jamir, Ssenkauka Nelson, Jungu Methodius all converted for the visitors.

Meanwhile in Soroti, Ateker FC cruised to the round of 32 after a 4-2 penalty shootout win over Lugazi Municipal FC.

The two sides had played out to a 1-1 draw in normal time.

Maroons also advanced 4-2 on penalties after a 1-1 stalemate against North FC in normal time in Jinja.

In Soroti, UPDF FC sailed through to the round of 32 after a 3-0 win over Soroti FC.

Action in the round of 64 will resume tomorrow with two games as Bujumbura United FC host Paidha Black Angels FC at Kibanjwa Grounds in Hoima whereas Iganga Young FC will entertain Calvary FC at Ssaza grounds in Iganga.
