NEC FC bounced back to the winning ways in style after thumping Soroti City 5-1 in a Big League early kick off at Bugolobi Coffee Ground.

Skipper Marvin Kavuma led by example scoring a hat trick while Sulaiman Ssesaazi and second half substitute Geoffrey Sserunkuma grabbed one each.

Kavuma opened the scores as early as the 8th minute with a well taken penalty following a handball in the area.

NEC would have scored more before the halftime break but Kiberu Tonny didn’t come with his scoring scores and squandered a couple of chances.

Against the run of play, Soroti equalized through their talisman Simon Peter Odeke who capitalized on a sloppy defending in the 36th minute.

Three minutes into the second half, Ssesaazi restored NEC’s lead with a thumping header from Shamir Kimwero’s corner kick.

Kavuma made it 3-1 with a clinical finish after dispossessing Stephen Oriokot at the edge of the box in the 78th minute.

Two minutes later veteran striker Sserunkuma set up Kavuma who overpowered his marker to complete his hat trick with a bullet shot.

Two minutes to full time, NEC won another penalty after another Oriokot handball in the area. Sserunkuma stepped up and flawlessly converted to mark his first goal in NEC colors.

The win took NEC to the third place on 40 points, level with Mbarara City who have a superior goal difference.

Kavuma’s hat trick took his personal tally to 13 goals this season.

NEC will visit Adjumani Town Council in their next game while Soroti who are now third from bottom with 23 points, will host Kataka FC.
