Uganda national Netball team will begin their 2023 Netball World Cup campaign on Friday afternoon against Singapore at 12noon (EAT).

The contest will be played at the International Conventional Centre in Cape Town, South Africa.

This is the fourth time that the She Cranes are taking part in the global Netball Showpiece after previous appearances in 1979 (Port of Spain), 2015 (Sydney) and most recently in 2019 (Liverpool).

At the 2019 edition in Liverpool, the She Cranes achieved their best position at the event finishing 7th.

Their opponents Singapore are playing their seventh Netball World Cup with their first coming way back at the 1967 edition.

Their best performance at the competition also came in the same year finishing 8th. During the previous edition, Singapore finished bottom (16th position) having lost all the three games they played against Barbados, Malawi and New Zealand.

Despite the administrative issues that saw the Uganda Netball Federation President Sarah Babirye Kityo being told to step aside for three months due to accountability. Under head coach Frank Mugerwa, the team trained for about 40 days starting with non residential training at Kamwokya TLC before spells at Africa Bible University in Lubowa, Lugogo Indoor and finally at Nakirebe.

They also had friendly games against the Men’s National team (Rock) before their friendlies in South Africa against Barbados (54-33) and Scotland (53-47).
